Don’t charge hourly, charge per project with very specific details of deliverables and detailed descriptions of what revisions / iterations include.
Through trial and error, I’ve learned the hard way in my freelancing career that charging a hourly rate almost ALWAYS trapped me in an unfair work agreement.
A design system is A LOT of work, ESPECIALLY if they already have products. I can guarantee you’ll be spending minimum 20+ hours auditing the UI of their currently released products, before you even can start thinking about a new design system. Be careful with agreeing on a hourly rate for freelancing because you will often need to “prove”why you’re working on specific tasks for a certain amount of time and that can be more headache compared to a predetermined price and managed expectations through previously agreed upon deliverables with your client.
Hourly and as much as possible
Thank you all for your feedback. Signed a contract, per project, including specific details on what is being delivered
