As much risk as possible since it doesn’t pay to be second. Strategy depends on the rules and whether you can trade derivatives.

Probably would go with a bunch of small/micro caps and hope something takes off. For a 2 month period anyone that says it is anything other that luck is kidding themselves

It is still skill to up the probabilities… guaranteed someone buys and holds a blue chip/market ETF and treats it like real money

Look for micro cap biotechs with upcoming catalysts during the contest period. Biotechs tend to be all-or-nothing on individual catalysts (usually clinical trial readouts.) Upside (and downside) potential is huge, but the chances for a big swing in valuation are very real.

Also please note this is NOT good investing advice, it's a strategy to win a contest. I make monthly index fund buys - but your contest isn't played on a multi-decade time horizon so you need high risk / high reward plays.

That also assumes options are off the table, if they are fair game that's a whole separate conversation.

Yep this is what I do in these competitions. You can try to line up dates so if you’re still behind a few days before it closes, you have a few options to retake the lead.

Should I continue using a robo advisor such as betterment? I initially put my money there bc it was easy and I have about 40k - before I drop another 50k into the market, I just want to know if I'm better off picking an ETF and doing it myself?

2 considerations:

1) Betterment is very to use/see and I dont have to worry about any decisions
2) I already have 40k in there so there is some added benefit if I put more money in that pot
