Partner here dealing with snarky billing department. I’m relatively new to bringing business and the issue is receiving appropriate credit timely (it affects my pay and ability to advance to EP) for my matters. My billing rep is aggressive interactions have been for routine tasks and I’m extra nice. Recent interactions via phone and email have been more hostile essentially telling me there is no other way to do things for me to receive immediate credit for money coming in. Any tips?

Talk to your coworkers to see if this is typical of this person and how they deal with it. Once you figure out the “why” for this person’s behavior, you can make an informed decision about how to deal with them and whether they’re even giving you accurate information. IME, billing has no idea what numbers matter for attorneys and in what way/why.

Realize the details are mostly irrelevant but in the middle of actual work, I am dealing with snarky emails for things that shouldn’t take long.

The billing people have their own processes and when people interrupt them constantly for “one offs” it screws up their flow and depending on the size of the firm, their metrics.

It's almost Christmas. Try giving the billing clerk a gift and a card thanking him for all his hard work for you. Ideally, deliver it in person, and see what happens next year.

AA1 I don't think OP wants to be made a priority. They just want this person to do their job and stopping messing up their job.

We go to school for a very long time, we work extremely hard, long hours and deal with a lot of BS and for some it is with the goal to advance. To have someone stand in your way like this over "office politics" and to be expected to just allow it is a crazy take. If my goal was to make partner and I had worked my butt off to get the point that OP is at and a crabby person in billing who probably hates her job was standing in my way, I'd move mountains to get her out of my way. It's completely innapropriate to treat a coworker with disrespect PERIOD. If OP is doing something wrong or needs their expectations set, then billing department lady should involve her manager. Considering it sounds like she hasn't, that would indicate to me that OPs expectations are appropriate and the billing department lady is out of line.

Report to HR. Idk what's going on but I've noticed a switch in people's attitude just this week. Not with coworkers but with clients and just random people out in the world. Lots of people seem aggressive, angry, horrible, inconsiderate. Not sure, maybe stress from holidays but its not pleasant.

Maybe it’s the truth and she/he has to tell attorneys this all day and she/he is just doing their job. Or, maybe this person isn’t getting a decent end of year bonus or any at all and doesn’t care if you get your big pay out. There could be many reasons. I recently left a firm where I watched associate attorneys who I did most of their work get 10s of thousands in bonus money and I got a .80 cent raise. Yea hence I left. With anything in life you get out of it what you put into it.

I suffered under really hostile assistants and now have the most amazing ones who actually want to learn and help.

As someone else has said, ask around how typical this is of this person.

I heard anything over 100 was encroaching ACD territory but I find that extremely difficult to believe because I'm already near that wall...

I’ve got 8 years experience, work at a small, hot creative agency in NYC and will be promoted to CD soon. I’m not irreplaceable since no one truly is, but I’m a high value employee responsible for a good proportion of the agency’s marquee creative work and some important new business wins. I’m at $165k now, what should I ask for with my promotion?

What ever I'm expecting is as per market standards n expecting 50℅ hike as fixed component. How should I get this done? I checked with other employees and my expected figure is completely normal.
