I had that happen at a company I worked for. I got tired of them constantly dangling the carrot in front of me, so I left. It might be time for you to start looking for something else.
I know its hard and scary but dont let anyone use you walk all over you. Look fo another job when you have interviews then tell them to eaither give you the position you want or to compensate you for your work ot you have to leave because you do not feel validated and cant keep allowing them to have you work more and not treat you right.

That’s rough and honestly frustrating. Doing the work without the recognition or pay is demoralizing. Some people set a clear conversation with leadership about expectations, others start looking elsewhere where effort is actually rewarded. It’s tough when loyalty feels one-sided. Have you thought about confronting it directly or exploring other options?
After much thought, I’ve decided to look elsewhere. I don’t believe it’s the companies values, it is strictly my regional manager and the interim district manager that don’t believe in my abilities or worth. Our specific district has gone through 9 district managers in 6 years because of the regional manager.

I have this happen to me and I read the room. I knew there was no upward movement when this person was promoted, so that was my cue to leave and I did just that.
Find another position as soon as possible. For whatever reason you are not being considered as a good candidate for management. You’re valued but expendable. Take your years of experience, ability to train and apply to a management position elsewhere. If they haven’t told you what you need to do to move up that’s a telling sign as well.
I’ve been there and done that. You have 2 options and both require some bravery.
1. If you really like the company you work for, request a meeting with whoever overseas the hiring and training for the store manager and establish what you’ve experienced, and request a detailed plan of action to be the next promoted into the spot. If they can’t do that for you, then that’s on them. You’re also well with in reason to establish a boundary that you will not be training those above you for their job outside of every store level basics (pos, fitting room, etc.)
2. I think everyone has said this…Leave. Find a new place that values your experience and put in the proper notification to resign. It’s not the incoming managers fault they got the job, but you don’t have to stay and be taken advantage of. I’ve seen plenty of associates follow the Asst manager out rather than stay for the new managers.
Yes . All the time . I kept thinking why? But I started to realize it's to trick me to do more work for less pay.
