I lateraled from a small firm to regional big law last year. I was told that my offer was commensurate with class year (5th year). The firm recently increased first year salary, with a 5% increase for all other attorneys. My original salary was equal to the new first year salary. The difference between my new salary and a first year is now $10k. I think it is fairly obvious that the hiring partner was not truthful with me. How would you address this? Is another lateral move my only option?

Millennials like us always assume we’re about to get fired - I actually have been laid off in a meeting with that title. My current CTC is <10LPA, therefore even if I switch jobs and am offered a package that is 40%–50% higher than my current CTC, my new income won't be much higher than 12LPA–13LPA. However, I am on the lookout for even better ones. So, if there is a negotiation, can I mention to HR that I already have an offer of at least 12 lpa and persuade them to give me more? Will this ruse succeed? Or will they demand to show an offer letter?
