AlixPartners is awesome for me. I came from an MBB and like the culture here more and have done incredibly impactful work (not restructuring/turnaround) work .
That said the answer to this question will depend on your career goals and where you like the people the most. The money should be close enough as these are two of the highest paying shops.
For a “Business Development Associate” you sure have strong opinions 😂. Have a great weekend.
LEK has been really good to me. Intense workload, but fascinating work and great people
OP, please read and take to heart the reviews at Glassdoor for both firms. I brushed off all the negative reviews before I joined only to realize 90%+ of it was true after 2-3 months of being here. Too late now.
I realize I am biased but I would take AP any day.
Top tier compensation, ridiculously smart people, really interesting work, and the firm continues to grow (despite COVID).
I feel very lucky to work at AP - it’s definitely a hidden gem.
We don’t have an office in Canada, but do allow people to live there. I’m a Canadian living in toronto but technically part of the nyc office - I’m paid the same as any other US employee.
It makes the financial case for Canadians who work at AP a no brainer.
Alix probably pigeonholes if you’re in restructuring, but pays better.
Would go with LEK personally if it’s generalist
Hey! Just to clarify something: this really depends on what side of the firm you’re in. The large majority of fees at Alix come from consulting (we call it enterprise improvement), while a historically significant but smaller share comes from turnaround and restructuring.
I’ve been on the consulting side of the business for 3+ years and have yet to work on anything related to restructuring.
Depends on a lot of stuff. Big difference is that if you want to stay in consulting for a long time AlixP is better. LEK might have more training and supporting system (never worked there but I’m assuming it is similar to other T2 firms)
It is a good question but I’m less sure on the Restructuring side of things.
I would go with LEK to maintain options, unless you’re deadest in specializing in Restructuring and Turnaround.
You won’t be doing any restructuring work in EI. Likely you’re bound to be exposed to ops DDs and large transformation work, with other stuff (growth, ops, etc.) sprinkled in.
LEK
Just signed AP. Thanks for your inputs, y'all!

Congrats! You dodged a bullet 😁
I know from friends that LEK can be a grind due to the nature of work around DDs
LEK. Easy.
LEK, brand much stronger!
Are you happy with your decision? :) I know it's been two years, but I would like to know your experience.
Sure, working hours really depend on the kind of project you're working on. DDs and outside-in assessments are long hours (75+), quickstrikes (detailed problem assessments) are 60-70, and what Alix defines as "implementation" is about 50-55 hours. As a generalist, you have some, but not a huge control over the kind of projects you choose - this convo is typically had with the staffing manager. Work is hybrid - we travel when required by client, usually couple times a month but again, really depends on the project
Tbh I don’t know much about AP, but happy to chat about LEK. Feel free to DM
If I wanted to apply to AP with no MBA, how achievable is that? I’m in Strategy and at the manager level. Or can you only get ‘in’ with an MBA. 5 years experience
