Walkthroughs suck no matter how experience you have
@Deloitte3 geez man, a little harsh. I'm a 2nd year senior and walkthroughs still make me cringe. #SoMuchToCoverSoLittleTime
Deloitte 3, yeah you're an a hole.
Eventually they'll be second nature
Did you start September? Seems like you had 8 months already to get over that hump. Maybe audit isn't for you ?
@Deloitte 3 - because you spent the first few months when you started doing walkthroughs?? I know FYs that are just now having an opportunity to do walkthroughs
OP it gets better, just do it! I think you are intimidated by the 2nd year, not the client, do it by yourself next time so you could be in charge of the flow of the conversation then everything will fall in place.
It does indeed get better
Yeah felt like I was in the same boat. After the first one it seems like the next one will be better now that I actually know what the hell we are documenting and why.
don't sweat it, just go in and have a nice chat, have a list in mind or on a notepad, if you miss an item just go back and ask again
It gets better with experience! If you're a first year.. Make sure you take good notes and observe how your lead does it
Walkthroughs make baby Jesus cry. Fact.
My first walkthrough ever was on a new client... 😑
If you have a hard time with the walk through in front of the client see if you can do a walk through with your tax team on their process first. It'll give you experience and probably isn't as high tension as the client one. Plus as long as the tax team is decent they should appreciate the effort to engage them. Yes I am in tax.
Don't listen to Deloitte 3. I'm a Senior and although I am comfortable doing a walkthrough now it did take doing it a few times to feel that way... It's not about how many months you've been with the firm it's about how many times you've been put in the situation to lead a walkthrough meeting.
Yes. D4 Every job I've been on the FY updates our control documentation and performs walkthroughs. Seems a little weak that almost going into second yr they're not comfortable talking to the client. If there's something you don't know, just be upfront with the client and tell them you don't know and if they could "walkthrough" with you. But again maybe audit is not for you.
