Promoted to AE in the fall and have gotten no negative feedback whatsoever- I ask consistently. I have notes saved from clients, VPs, ECDs etc singing my praises and have been getting AS offers at other agencies since October. I am confident that I am ready for a promotion to AS as I am doing the duties of the empty position above me but am worried that I will look greedy asking this soon. Especially given the fact that I have never supervised anyone. I do all intern-AS jobs due to understaffing

That’s so great you’re crushing it! What’s your motivation here, the title, the money, the recognition? If you got promoted under a year ago, I do think it will come across poorly if you try to push for another promotion so soon. A lot of my experience in advertising has been built with the passage of time - aka the more projects I do the more little quirks and situations I learn from them. While you may feel you’ve got the skill set down, I don’t think you’ve been in the industry long enough to learn some of those lessons that come from just doing more projects over a longer period of time. If you’re happy with your team and work stay put and keep learning, I’d you’re not than take one of those AS offers and leave.

Agree with comments above. I remember when I was an AE and knew I was crushing it and exceeding all the bullets on the job description of the SAE position. I walked my manager through all the reasons why I deserved a promotion and she told me “you’re doing great, but sometimes it’s not about your performance, it’s just about time and experience.” I was livid because I was doing the work.

Fast forward to today and wholeheartedly agree with her response. As someone commented above, sometimes you just have to live it and grow through trial and error.

I’ll also add that I did start job searching, got an offer, and took it back to the company. It got escalated all the way up to the GM who pulled me in her office and simply said, “name your number to stay.” and walked out with $15k salary bump. So, don’t be scared to remind them what you’re worth, even if you don’t get that level bump.

Ummm... this may be counter to what others in this thread think, but if you are getting AS offers from other agencies you might just want to take one of them up on it. You also almost always make more $ jumping agencies versus staying at the same one. Good luck!

Are you getting AS offers or just outreach from recruiters for AS opportunities? I don't know anyone who is getting multiple actual offers and is turning them down without having a conversation with their current employer

If you are interested in the AS position and like your current agency I would speak to your manager. I would ask what skills you need to focus on to be grow into that type of role within the agency. This will do 2 things signal to your manager that you are interested in continued development (and that you could be potentially looking for that other places) and it gives you a really clear understanding of what you should focus for continued development.

Based on what you’ve shared in the original post and subsequent comments, my perspective is somewhat counter to the popular opinion here. Keep pushing. So much of advancing in this industry is about circumstance and opportunity. It sounds like you have the tenure with the org, have taken on responsibility above and below (you’re doing the AS job already as stated), and the role is open. The team is understaffed and you’re viewed as highly valuable. Use the leverage in a tactful way. At minimum, ensure there is a plan in place to get you there, vs just hiring someone off the street for the role and potentially setting your trajectory back.

Congratulations! You are doing your job/career that they hired you for.
You are not entitled to a promotion just because you are doing your assigned tasks with your employer. Especially just under a year. Keep doing the work and doing it well for at least a year, then apply to the position if still open.

Of late I am receiving multiple "negative feedback" ,"profile on-hold" from HRs. I am sure as hell that this feedback is based on the pay and not the technical/managerial/director round results.

No offense but should HRs have this much of a deciding authority over a candidate's selection?
