I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!

From what I know, most companies that are hiring AE’s will only hire those with an AE Saas background or at least 1-2 years of SDR/BDR experience. I believe getting a good paying BDR/SDR, crushing it and promote quickly
Yeah. Definitely get some SaaS experience as an SDR/BDR role. SMB and enterprise if possible. Short and long sales cycle experience.
Going to be difficult to snag an AE role. Tech is totally different from mortgage industry
Maybe try an outbound SDR role - should pay better than inbound and quicker step up to AE role. That was my experience - best way to learn a new industry, even though I had been an SDR previously in another industry.
