Address homelessness and car crime
Crime stats drop if no crime is enforced

Smart reasonable people know that over 10,000 larceny/theft crimes and over 1,000 in-person robberies in just 6 months is still WAY TOO HIGH for a city to be considered “safe.”
And real people also know that a substantial amount of crimes are still underreported because which person/shopkeeper wants to waste their entire day calling the police/trying to file a report for a person they know will likely not be caught or prosecuted. Criminals needs to be PUNISHED for people to actually call the police.
The city has been a punching bag for decades, though the latest version of it has been more toxic than even Pat Buchanan's version. I don't think that's going to change. At this point it doesn't even matter what the numbers are, most of the people slamming the city couldn't care anyway.
I don't think property crime is the biggest issue that makes people nervous about the city. The tolerance of crime, open drug use, rampant homelessness (all of these are related by the way) are the biggest problems.
100% it’s a media talking point. Especially since most major outlets are Easy Coast-based and love to hate on CA in general, I don’t expect this to change anytime soon. Unless/until another western or midwestern city becomes the next hit piece target.
