Pros: Red, plastic
Cons: I do not like primary colors, I prefer metal
I can tell you everything, just ask.
I loved it for the sign up bonus, I got a 60,500 offer (500 cuz applied in flight)
Good part: easy sign up bonus; Miles accumulation on spend is average but AA miles are decent ish
Bad part: AA redemptions (I wasn't used to it till this card) are the worst {I think more finding non-stop/decent award travel that isn't booked up too fast etc.
The usual free bag etc, care free card; can always downgrade which is the plan, aviator blue with no annual fee
You are basically paying $95 bucks for ~60K miles, which sounds like a good deal to me. I did that a year back and have cancelled the card now
Good point TSC1! I did that either w/ the red card or the delta Amex gold card... can’t keep up with those airline cards any more lol
Pros: reduced mileage awards, 10% miles rebate
Cons: annual fee is charged in your first year
Also you can upgrade to the silver after a few months and get EQMs and EQDs- this is my primary reason for it
Cap1- Now they are offering 50k miles instead of 60k as they did initially.
Sr A1 - What do you mean by upgrade to silver? Could you please provide some details?
D2, would have been better to just downgrade the card to a no annual fee version 😁
After two months of having the red card, you can request to upgrade to the silver card. Silver is not open to new applicants directly. Once you are eligible, a button should show up on your online account, or you call and ask.
I haven’t done it myself, but just I opened the red card to do exactly this based on some TPG article and other blogs. If for some reason it doesn’t work... I cancel and have 50k new miles.
While the bang for you buck in points isn’t as great as some other cards, I’m getting it for the EQMs and EQDs.
As an exec plat out of DFW, EQDs are the biggest factor in where you stand on the upgrade list. You can get up to $6k more in EQDs by using this card (after $50k in spend: $3k EQDs for each $25k in spend).
Also as someone that usually ends up close to the exec plat threshold near years end, the EQMs also reduce the need to pay for a mileage run in order to keep status and ultimately get those SWUs.
I used to use SPG card for all no travel/ bonus spend, but Marriott fucked that one up, which makes this card a lot more attractive.
People shitting on it either don’t care about the elite aspects of the card, or are myopic in how to use it.
