So college hire A1 now C1 and eyeing SC1?
Yes! I want to push for it :)
I don’t think there are any negatives if you’re staying with D. Moving to other places, they may demote you by title, but once you share your experience and responsibilities you may be able to straighten it out.
By other places you mean exit to industry?
How did you get fast tracked to C?
(Just started at D with 1 year of previous experience)
For context, I’m very technical so the skills I really need to pick up are communication, deck work, project management, etc.
Following - in a similar situation.
I hope we both get some good advice!
Not in Deloitte, so don't know the specifics. But in my experience some people get fast tracked because they are good at working or have a good relationship with a partner or set of partners at their current level, which is just one part of the story.
The main risk would be what you point out: are they fast tracking because you are really good at current level or because they believe you have adequate set of skills to succeed at next level? I guess you should self evaluate if you have reached that level, in terms of leadership, relevant experiences, technical knowledge, client management. I have seen people with not so many years of experience being really good at it, so it could be.
My advice would be, gather the main skills required as per your company for the next level, and try to work on improving the ones you believe are a challenge.
Also, consider if you are ready for a higher position (higher responsibility, your success depends frequently on others, and your ability to make others deliver, more pressure to dell). I sometimes miss the times when all I had to do was to deliver what I was required and having a good relationship with a few folks in the team/client, even if it required long hours some times. There is no need to rush, neither, you can enjoy every step.
In the long run, the worst can happen is that you get stuck at a given level because no one is good at all the roles and you might need some time to adjust.
So, I would say, if you can do it and you want it, go for it!
GT1 - it doesn’t work like that at Deloitte. I have to perform at the “next level” for 6 months before getting promoted.
I would think the only draw back would be that you may end up in a role that you don't have the experience to handle. But I mean you are getting fast tracked for a reason so I am sure you will be fine.
I was performing at the SC level as an analyst. However, my decking skills and communication skills (Eg: pushing back when clients demand too much) are lagging so I’m hoping I can improve those and then push for SC.
Even now I can’t make decks 😭, I just usually draw stuff out & get someone to make it look pretty for me.
As long as they’re appropriately compensating you, fake it til you make it
Do not take on additional responsibilities without receiving additional compensation! You will never get to the pay level you deserve (and what others are making at that level) if you do not insist on the requisite pay raise along with the increase in responsibilities.
