At my current company, tech vs strategy vs operations are very different in terms of work, expected deliverables, project duration, progression speed, pay, etc. I would really like to understand how BCG works organizationally. Thank you!
I literally have no idea. I think I had the tech advantage people build a model in Alteryx for me once
The big difference is that at BCG you're just hired into the consulting "practice". All topic and industry specialties exist, but you can bounce around many before zeroing in on one. The only difference is our TA (technology advantage) practice that hires folks specifically to be TA and has their own staffing function.
There is no difference in terms of pay, promotion, etc. TA does tech transformations, more or less helping orgs develop their high level tech needs and roadmaps (in not a tech guy, only worked with TA once). Other than TA and some small specialties we are generalists, so the same people work in strategy and ops and any other practice you can get staffed in. Does that answer the question?
BCG1, that was the advanced modeling team, I can never remember their name, not TA. They aren't consultants, TA are.
BCG1, you're probably thinking of Gamma. TA is a functional practice within consulting
OP all are functions within our consulting practice. Just staffing on different case types. Being aligned with any one will only change your promotion timing if you do better or worse at it.
Thanks everyone, this has been super helpful!
