Question for people who help out in their companies recruitment: are there any big red flags you look out for when looking through resumes?

Same role but Multiple companies within a short time frame. Vague job descriptions. Attention to detail in formatting etc. if they handed you resume, what was their demeanor? If at a job fair, how were they dressed. Did it look like they put in the time for it or just throw it in a an AI software.

Also if the stack is large. I heard Goldman Stanley only look through half the resumes and the rest go into trash. Luck is also part of the job

It’s ridiculous isn’t it ! Where abouts in the us are you based?

Resume should be tidy and easy to read. If there's lots of formatting, grammar, spelling issues, doesn't read well - immediately in the trash. It's an example of your work product, if that isn't good, your work product will only be downhill from there.

I look for companies you worked for, job titles, and skim for similar job functions.

Working for a large company with complex systems, only having quickbooks or small company software experience would be a no for me (not technically red flag but not a close skills match)

Not being to articulate your job functions beyond mechanics (no big picture) - red flag

Texas

Format and grammar are number 1. I cannot focus otherwise. Then similar to others mentioned, consistent roles across multiple companies in a short timeframe and detailing unimportant info, like gpa on a role for someone with 10+ years experience following graduation.

Name the most ridiculous micro-managing by partners that you experience.

I’ll go first: MP told me that on initial emails, I am always to start with “Hello [name],” but after the initial email, I am not to address her by name again in the same thread. Initial greeting can only be “Hello [name] ” because just first name is too brisk and a “Hi [name]” is too informal. Had a 5 minute, in depth conversation as to why she prefers it this way…

Anyone here counsel for a parent company with a lot of subsidiaries but the parent company’s legal department is really really small? I’m wondering if a small legal department for a large company is more of a pro or con? On one hand I suspect it’s less organized, on the other it might be a great leadership opportunity. Any insight? According to an article in LinkedIn new job postings are down for the first time in 9 months but still there over 10 million open jobs with only 5.9 million unemployed workers. Why is it that here I am unemployed over 4 months and still not one offer. Anyone got some positive vibes to send my way it would be appreciated! I’ve been in sales for over 20 years, b2c, b2b and account management as well as sales management. I’ve got great skills and enthusiasm to give to a great employer!

Hey beautiful people,
I’m 27Y and work in tech. Unfortunately my carpal tunnel is getting worst slowly. I’m worry that I still have like 45 years more to be retired and can’t stop working because I have a f* mortgage to pay 😭 I have a super ergonomic workstation, but I know my hand needs a long rest, and I can’t do it… Does anyone relate? What do you recommend?

I've decided to leave public for an Accounting Manager position in private. What are the different types of companies to consider and the pros/cons? What are the best ways to get the position? Anyone available to review my resume/guide me through this job search? I’ve been applying places for the past 6 months and am not getting responses. Unemployment has run out and I’m starting to crumble under the pressure of bills. My experience the past 6yrs has been in smaller companies where my role was never just one thing but instead spread over multiple departments, so I’m struggling to narrow down how to convey the vast experience I do have.

Hi all,

Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both
KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.

Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.

Thanks!

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.

Now applying for public accounting firms entry level positions but almost all firms HR asked if I had ever worked in firms. Got rejection emails from firms all the time. Is this a dead lock? firms exp matters much more than a CPA license?
