I got a call from DXC for senior Java developer position in Bucharest (Romania). They have mentioned a pay scale of 17k to 18k RON per month after tax cutting
If i got selected I am planning to move with my family.
Will there be any savings and what would be cost of living for a 3 member family there.

I did it a few years ago, best year of my life.
1. Living on my own schedule. I went travelling with no particular preplanned routes/destinations, I just stayed in places longer if I liked them and moved on if I didn't. Took each day as it came.
2. Nothing really. I was pretty much doing it for burn out reasons so I can't say I needed any clarity on my career, just a break.
3. Tricky one in the current market, but if you are fortunate to have the luxury of it like I was, don't rush the job search while you're away otherwise it'll probably not be the fun sabbatical it should be. Be adventurous and open minded.
4. To do it all again! I learned not to care as much about work since coming back and that it's not what fulfills me as a person.
I took 4 months off between jobs and changed careers. I did a yoga challenge, 30 days/30 classes and ended up extending to 45 because I saw so much progress and loved it. I also hired a therapist/career coach and worked on defining my values as a person, a mom and an employee. I only applied to companies whose values aligned with my own. I’ve now been with my company 8 years and created an amazing career. If you can afford it, this type of pause is truly transformative. Good luck!
This is inspiring and I love that your learnings drove a values based direction - that is my biggest objective as I plan for this! Thank you for sharing!! 💙

Kind of.
I was in a completely toxic role. Legitimately toxic management, not just someone I didn’t like.
I negotiated an exit with a separation agreement that paid me for the next year. Insurance for six months. I didn’t even start looking for the next thing for three months.
My wife tried to resign about five years ago but they talked her into a LOA instead. She took 6 months from November - April.
The main thing, in addition to getting out of that hell hole as that we had a nine-month old at home. It was awesome.
This same baby/toddler allowed me to realize I’m not cut out to be a SAHP. I always had mad respect for those that can do it, but more so now.
Advice, avoid the urge to fill your days every day. My wife had to fight the urge to over schedule both herself and me and our daughter. It was exhausting.
About six months in I accepted a role that allowed me to pivot to Finance Compliance in tech. Double dipping salary for six months was sweeeet.

I couldn't afford it, and I highly doubt very many could.
I so wish I could but don’t make enough money to do so. I have known male sales management that has taken a gap year while their non-competes expire. Ahh, truly the good life. I won’t leave my dogs but if I didn’t have them, I would travel Europe alone.
