They can't change mid lease unless you're on a month to month. You signed a deal to pay x for y months.
‘Landlords can't increase the rent in the middle of a lease term, unless they stated a clause in their written lease agreement.’ Im in VA and thats what i read. So it seems like they can increase as much as they can and whenever they want and however, many times they want.

You must technically be on a month to month lease agreement. If so, yes it’s legal. 😕 I would ask for a 12 month renewable fixed lease.
If you have a fixed 12 month lease, this is very much illegal. Unless it specifically states the landlord will give you 30 days notice for a price adjustment in the lease. I hope not. I world never sign a lease that says that.
You signed the agreement that allows them to change. People need to learn to read the contracts they enter into.
