So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

That won’t come in a lawsuit
I was reacting to how absurd it was to say it in public. I’ve since read that it may have been taken out of context, but it would still be problematic.
I was at a smaller independent agency where the partners said this type of thing all the time and they took steps to “hide” laying off senior, higher salary people. Everyone had to sign a termination agreement when they left saying it wasn’t age related.
So, I can only imagine this will come up in a large holding company.

He is off base. As a former WPP employee I am not shocked. FYI, totally viable at 60 but too many inept, old white guys are sitting in judgement in order to secure their jobs. It'd be funny if it weren't so loathsome.

Yes it is loathsome. When I was 55 I met with a very prominent recruiter who told me I was too old to land a new gig. Idiot. I went on the spend the next 5 years as a CEO /Client lead.

I’ve always been aware that we have the shelf life of athletes, but what been surprisingly disappointing is that there’s none of the after career choices like athletes have like coaching.
Can’t use athletes as a comparison. In the NFL a running back is considered OLD north of 30. Plus, we use our minds and not our bodies.

By only claiming what they are (under 30) as opposed to what they do (hire under 30) they are skirting legalities. There will be outrage but that's about it.
