Product Management at a large bank vs Business Analytics/S&O for FAANG? Recently started in the former role, but have interview calls for the latter just come up in my mailbox. Similar comp when adjusted for the different job locations. Can anyone help me with the Pros and Cons please. I know the roles are different, and so are the industries, need to understand difference career paths and difference in corporate cultures. JPMorgan Chase Google LinkedIn Citi

A big part of your job is knowing how to communicate with, and to, people outside of your demographic. That includes age. It’s the over-40s’ job, too, and they’ve been doing it longer than you.
Honestly, I’m seeing a lot of Gen Z not getting Gen Z culture as well, as absurd it may sound.
Yes, there might be some education internally/externally, for example, when trying to sell social to older gen client, etc. But I’ve seen all generations both struggle and thrive when it comes to understanding “the culture.”
Let’s stop the 40+ hate postings. We should be lifting each other up during these difficult times not bringing certain age groups down.
As a gen x’er who’s been working in digital my entire career, don’t assume we don’t have some insights into human behavior and digital platforms that crosses generations. We have seen trends come, go and return. We have learned some things that work, and can be skeptical because we have seen some things that haven’t. And while I wouldn’t claim expertise, I’m always open to trying new platforms first-hand and consider it base learning.
All that said, good leaders in this industry recognize that culture moves at light speed, and in many niche pockets. If we are any good at our craft, we should be seeking and encouraging diversity across the board — not just generational, but gender, sexuality, racial, socioeconomic and more — however and whenever possible.
Unfortunately, there’s a number of people in this industry who are in leadership positions, but were never really trained to be good leaders. Winning a ton of creative awards doesn’t necessarily equate to be an empathetic leader of teams.
And my last bit of learning to share is that assholes can be any age… don’t let the bastards grind you down.
Yawn..another gen z who thinks they can screw in a lightbulb without moving because the whole world revolves around you.
I don’t get it. When I was in my 20s, I had so many friends who were in their 30s and 40s. It was normal to just respect everyone for who they were. Y’all are kinda weird and divisive now.
Not everyone is that way. Just the people with only a couple years of experience who think they're special cases despite all indications otherwise.
You know, one day you’ll be 40 too. When that day comes, would you want someone saying something like this?
For the OP this is from a popular show called ‘The Simpsons’ that rose to prominence on ‘television’ back ‘in the day’

It’s already here haha
Raise your hand if you sense a passive-aggressive millennial/Gen Z-er trying piss off a whole bunch of older creatives and strategists here. (Hand raised!) And also, Jane Fonda is on TikTok. Get over it. Last time I checked, everyone was allowed to join.
You forgot "entitled."
As a Gen Z, I'm more frustrated by fellow Gen Zs that claim to be able to speak for our entire generation
This post confirmed to me that everyone on fishbowl is a 40+ y/o grump - given this is the ONLY post where you guys are actually defending anyone or anything in this industry (yourselves).

No this post confirmed that insults can go both ways. Not that everyone over 40 is a grump. OP could also be seen as a grump towards 40 something’s. And beyond that, don’t dish bullshit if you can’t take the backlash. And obvi OP can’t take it because not one comment after their ignorant first post. And don’t assume everyone commenting is over 40. It’s a stupid comment at any age. It’s showing a lack of work maturity as well. I worked on Depends when I was 25. Do you think I understood the target? No but I did research and with the help of my team (including strat and account), I understood the needs/wants of the target audience. It’s literally our job to do this. We don’t all genuinely relate to the client we work for. We just learn to understand the reasoning and the ask. And with research and knowledge, despite it being unrelatable, we do become experts at our jobs.
If I can @ them, I would
Raise your hand if you're not a gen-z and have had to endure a gen-z who thinks they are a generational expert because they managed to stay alive for 24 years.
Sounds like you’re rattled. And maybe a little jealous.
the only way i could claim to be an expert on gen z/millennials is bc my kids are 19 and 24.
