I wasn't a full-blown adult, but I was 16 and it took me a SOLID 2 weeks to get back to any sort of normal. It was the most pain I've ever been in in my entire life. I joke now that I would give birth a million times over (I've had 2 kids) over having a tonsillectomy again. That said - take 2 weeks but communicate you may need longer. Be sure to take your pain meds + eat your liquids (milkshakes, etc.) which will take the edge off.
Don’t remember exactly how long it took me to get over, but it was much worse than I thought it would be and totally SUCKED
I was 28 when I had my tonsils out. Took a week off; didn’t need the full week but at the time (2008), remote work wasn’t supported by my agency. You’ll probably be fine to work after a day or so if remote. But talk to HR and your doctor and ask what is covered/recommended in terms of recovery. Take the time that’s recommended. You’ve earned it.
