Reached out to a recruiter who connected with me on LinkedIn months ago but never directly messaged me. He posted about a few jobs he is recruiting for and included a description of the type of candidate the firms are looking for. I thought that the roles sounded up my alley, and that I matched the description, so I reached out to him and asked to connect. All I got was a very curt one-line response saying my profile wouldn’t be a good fit. Is it worth asking why? Is this a normal response?

Trying to figure out recruiters could be a full-time job. There are some good ones, but it seems like a lot of them are hustlers with questionable manners. If you got a rude response, you've learned what you need to know about them and you can forget about dealing with them.

If you want to confidentially send me your background and the job descriptions, I’ll give you honest feedback.

I would not bother with that person anymore. Sounds like they are either too busy to take on new candidates or only see people as resumes and not people. Whatever it is, I wouldn’t feel comfortable entrusting my career to someone who treats me that way.
Take Partner Recruiter, above, up on their offer!

So… 3.5 year relationship came crashing in Jan due to covid depression, work burn out, lockdown etc. We have stayed in contact and recently he has come around to apologizing and considering getting back together. However he also revealed he started seeing someone casually 4 weeks ago and technically is cheating on her by meeting me for coffee and to discuss this. I’m upset that he’s dating others but shouldn’t be right? I mean, I did the same. Still hurts though. And I told him to sort that out

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.
