Recently got my act together, started a major push to clear debt and invest, now trying to learn how to FIRE and assess if I’m on track (goal is to keep current income in retirement)

Currently:
- 31 years old
- zero dept (school loan and credit cards have been brought to zero)
- $400k invested across 401k plan and ETFs
- $300k total annual comp
- rent an apartment
- maxing company 401k plan, mega backdoor Roth, and putting $50k additional per year into Vanguard ETFs post tax

What were some challenges y’all faced this week?

I’ll start. Trying to get non local resources utilized. National Leadership thinks this is the answer to our problems but local leadership is hesitant.

Parents- how much are you saving for your kids? Married mid 30s and family income is around 200k. We both max employer 401k. Have around 30k debt. Lcol and low mortgage. Would you pay off debt- or focus on kids savings? Oldest kid is 7 years out from college and will have some VA benefits.

Are investment properties good for retirement?

I’m maxing out my 401K, traditional IRA and HSA this year and paying for some house improvements. I have about $750K total investments and very close to $2M net worth, but realize that I am behind on investments if I want to do FIRE. I was focused on paying off huge chunks of my mortgage and managed to whittle it down to $75K left. Would you suggest I go ahead and pay that off this year? Or pause and do a mega back door roth instead? I’m mid 40s. Thanks!

First time investor in the US. Any suggestions on books / blogs to read to get smart. Where do people typically invest given all the client related policies in place for consulting firms?

I contribute 10% of my paycheck to my employee share purchase plan. Is this smart to do given the tax repercussions behind it? Is it smarter to invest less in that and more in my Roth or 401k?

I’m curious why more non-US citizens interested in FIRE don’t go live in a no/low tax jurisdiction even for a few years e.g. Dubai, some Caribbean islands. I get that some people will have family circumstances (e.g. elderly parents to look after) so it won’t be possible for them, but for a significant proportion it will be an option
