Recently resigned from my role as an in-house lawyer at a multinational tech company. Moving into venture capital in a non-Legal role as a Portfolio Manager. Has anyone tread this path before? Any tips for how to succeed in my first non-Legal role?

What are you long term goals? If you want to move up in VC will you need an MBA? Most people I know in the space have an MBA.

like

Long term goal is COO or CEO.

I have a Bachelor of Business Management already, so an MBA is not something I'll be pursuing in the near future. Based on my research it's not necessary and a Master of Finance seems more useful.

What are you actually trying to do in your role? Do you have carry, what do your partners expect of you? How are you going to support the portcos?

Feel free to DM. You have a better salary than I do, but I balked at BL life. Work currently in a small fund, happy to discuss and see where i can help out in VC.

What’s the salary like?

245k + 10% bonus

Congratulations on a wonderful opportunity.

How do you get this kind of opportunity? Or what background would they be looking for? And how many years of experience? A funds background? Just curious as it does sound super interesting (although sorry … this isn’t what you were asking about)

Awesome, thank you!
