It strikes me that if you took it, it would be plenty easy to come back to law. If you miss this opportunity, it may not come up again for a long time. I’d definitely take it.
I mean, if someone offered me a job at the state department today I would absolutely take it just to see how it went for a year or two. You can always go back to law…

I am considering taking the foreign service exam. Big law isn’t worth the price of admission. Take the job!

It’s a great job but not easy to get into. I had a buddy who became a FSO but it took years of trying.
And then got stuck somewhere like Burkina Faso for 6 years…. Be careful what you wish for, especially as a young female. Sorry to sound sexist, but most of the world doesn’t share the values we take for granted in the USA.
I know someone who was posted to Saudi Arabia for 3 years as a young woman and didn’t bother to learn Arabic. Now she’s confused why she can’t find another posting

Absolutely. Considered taking the FSE around that time but I had a full freight of debt to pay off. Wish I’d been able to.
