It’s so situational. With my last resignation, I shared the name of the new employer immediately. I was leaving to work for a firm that we had an active contract with and I wanted to be transparent about how the offer came about, as well as provide an opportunity for the employer to take the necessary steps to contract me back if they wanted since there was close to zero chance they were going to replace me in a timely manner (well over six months later they don’t even have an applicant). I also needed someone to immediately take over the oversight of that contract.
Honestly if you ask me, I don’t care sharing.
It’s just that - there could be a possible Non compete which I don’t want them to action on during my departure.

Yay!! You guys have the best fries.
Dont burn bridges. If going to competitor, probably best to share details. If other, maybe share less specific details if youre not comfortable with full disclosure. Its not uncommon to boomerang. Take the high road, be honest, speak the truth. Its a pivotal moment and how you handle speaks louder than the transition itself.

Who cares. Just tell them.
I have heard often and said, it’s confidential until the joining date, and disclose the industry and location.
