Saw this in the larger Advertising bowl by a Dad, and wanted to cross-post here. Have any of you taken years off and successfully reentered the industry?

Anyone have any friends who successfully pivoted out of advertising? I know a handful of people who are half-trying to, but I can’t think of anyone who has made a clean break, on their own terms, into something that appears to be making them feel more fulfilled than they were in the ad biz. So they continue freelancing in order to make a living, while not gaining much traction elsewhere.

I’ve reached a point in my career where I want to take a step back and do an easy job just for the medical insurance benefits. Any ideas what I could do (or who is hiring)? Would contracts manager/admin/specialist be an easy job?

A colleague told me today that Google separates Product Manager and Product Owner as two separate roles. I believe that one PM role is preferred in the industry and most modern software companies, especially FAANG companies, only have PMs. Just curious what others have experienced and if I'm correct in my assumption.

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

Is there a way to gain some modeling skills from FDD? My plan is to exit as FP&A or Corp Dev but I heard they are looking for modeling skills. I know that working I can try to move to IB and then try that route but IB hours seem to be too brutal for me.

I’ve been told my company is changing my title from Associate Director of BD to Sales Executive. I’m concerned it reads like a title demotion. Is it just semantics? How will this look for my career development? Curious about the standard perception of Sales Executive from a seniority perspective. Where does this land on the sales roles hierarchy? For context, it’s a professional services firm, I’ve been there 3+years, and they gave a Sales Executive title to someone who just started 5mo ago.

What are your best strategies/resources to help students who really struggle with writing?

Looking for a financial advisor to help us begin investing - any recommendations? Is $30K enough to start with?

Any tips for building a client base from scratch? I’m a 4th year associate at a firm of 12 attorneys. I practice in business, compliance, and real estate (primarily on partners’ files) and don’t litigate. Most of the partners’ clients are wealthy friends or friends of friends (not my circle). Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I equate a book to autonomy and career choice and pressure is on.

What are the best industries for talented strategy/business developers? Looking for industry exit opportunities from retail banking as I find the entire industry too boring.
