When we have 3-4 solid candidates in the interview process. Don’t let the number of applicants you see on LinkedIn stop you - if clicking apply leads you to the company’s career site to complete an application, LinkedIn can’t track whether people completed the application or not, so the numbers you see are typically much higher than reality.
Also, you’d be shocked at how many people apply for jobs they aren’t remotely qualified for. Just because they have a few hundred applications doesn’t mean they’re good ones. If it’s a job you want, apply anyway!
Good to know. Thanks.
Fair question, but it depends on the recruiter and the role. I usually close the job once we have a talent pool the hiring manager is satisfied with. Sometimes you find them at 20 and other times at up to 100.
I think most hiring managers start ignoring applications after 1 week, or at least 50 “reasonably qualified” applicants, whichever comes first.
But like others have said, any time you see “over 100 applicants” on LinkedIn, there might be 50 to 75 who are looking for visa sponsorship or aren’t based in the US, which would instantly put them in the “no way” bucket. So don’t be shy in applying, especially if you think you’re a great fit. If that does happen where you apply and it looks like there’s a lot of candidates, that’s when you want to start networking and seeing if you can get someone to refer you and/or introduce you to the hiring manager.
