Advice needed - boyfriend has almost 3.5 years of finance experience at a bank. Interviewed for PwC valuation senior associate and now recruiter says they want to hire him at “experienced associate” because he has no valuation experience. Is this too big of a step backwards in career? Should he push back and see if it gets him anywhere? If he does accept Associate, is it reasonable to ask for written, definitive timeline (1 year?) for promo to Senior upon meeting standards? Help!

Yup, fake jobs.
I've been seeing the same thing. I have had two instances now where I have gone through a phone interview and then two in-person interviews only to be told they are holding off on filling the position. It's frustrating because I'm a struggling single mom with 2 teenagers at home depending on me. The travel to the interviews alone is costly. I'm highly qualified for the positions, and the interviews were very productive and "comfortable". One company even sent me their benefits via email the day after the second interview (I did not request them either).
It’s been known for months on the economic networks and data points, even when they said jobs were growing: white collar jobs were not growing. It started near the beginning of the year, likely only to reverse if rate cuts happen on a larger scale than just a quarter %, which is what should and likely will happen. Should not be a surprise
A possibility (from experience on the hiring side) is if numbers are soft, leadership pulls the requisition, or pauses finalizing hires. I saw this at my last firm. A potential transaction such as merger or PE investment can also stop some jobs from being filled as there may be new people to deal with in a merger to fill the role or in the case of PE suddenly a giant interest bill means things are getting tighter on hiring and every other area.
That’s a lot of cancellation emails. I just can’t see blaming this on anything but fishing around to see what’s out there? Seems like anything else, like pulling jobs due to something or another, is just plain bad management making bad decisions based on bad information.
Had something similar happen with interviews. Went 2 rounds with a SM and partner. They wanted to fly me down, over the weekend got an email back saying, have to cancel the trip and we’ll reevaluate needs in the spring
So sorry about your RSM experience.
A lot of companies are doing fake jobs to see the response and also to stay relevant.
It's a cruel joke they are playing.
