Seeking experience: Apple Pencil and GoodNotes.
I am considering getting GoodNotes on my iPad to teach with this fall. I haven’t yet found a digital writing option that I can record or use love with students. I’ve seen some good tutorials on it and I think it would fit my needs in a robust is way. The tutorials I’ve seen use Apple Pencil with it. Is Apple Pencil substantially better then a mass market stylus? Have folks used either or both of these products before?

Thoughts on Engage NY/Eureka math...

I finally was able to convince my principal that we need a consistent math intervention at the MS level (grades 5-8). (Right now, we are just "doing our own thing," which isn't helping students progress much.) Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be beneficial to have some sort of progress monitoring tool as part of the program, if possible. Our classes run roughly 55 minutes (which is too long for an intervention, in my humble opinion).

I’m preparing to teach division with decimals. Our math program doesn’t have manipulatives for the concrete representation. Suggestions how to have students understand dividing with/without decimals?

I’m teaching summer school at a high school, and the co-principals have asked me to focus on only 2 to 3 chapters worth (what they are calling “2-3 standards” in the eight days of summer semesters. However, they are also asking me to give kids the midterm and/or final at the end of each period, which covers 4-5 chapters each semester. My question is this: “Is it legal by California Ed code for the administration to ask me to teach less than each entire semester, yet test each whole semester?”

My district has finally gone 1-to-1. Is there a good app or website that I could use to have students submit answers anonymously while going over problems in class? I did this last week using Kahoot to go over a state testing review packet. It was great because I could see how many got the right answer and move on if no one missed the question. However, I would like to do it without having to create something in advance. I hope this doesn't sound confusing.

Good ideas for teaching subtraction across zeros? I teach 3rd grade. Are there videos out there? The students struggle with subtraction all together.

What’s your opinion on math homework? I teach 4th grade and have always given it but I’d like to see what others do and weigh out if it’s really worth it. If I give it, I feel like I should spend class time going over it but on the other hand I stress myself out trying to keep the absent work organized and those that don’t even do the work.

I found using GoFormative’s free version to be very helpful in teaching new topics to my students. I embed videos I make demonstrating how to complete a question, next I ask them to complete an example showing work, and then the next question they type their answer so it automatically alerts them to see if they answered correctly. It can be used live in a meet and on an independent virtual day. In my google meets, I’m able to give feedback on any question they have trouble with in real time.

What do you do when you have a student completely freeze and bomb a test? I had a student in class today answer only 2 questions on a test and missed both of those. She was in tears and couldn't finish the test. What do you do in these situations?

Does anyone use Interactive Student Notebooks (ISN) in their math class. I've used them in the past and doing it again this year. How's it going with students following instructions and assembling their notebook handouts?

Does anyone else have to wait until they have all assignments turned in for the day to start grading? I have Geom classes in the a.m. and p.m. and my OCD doesn’t let me grade as they are turned in.

Does anyone know a great 7th grade math workbook? Our school system does not buy the students books. I’ve taught 6th grade math for 20 years and have made all my notes, worksheets and and examples, but I’ve been assigned a seventh grade math class and don’t have enough time to get all of that ready. I feel like I’ve spent so much money on Amazon and TPT but it never ends up being what I want. It’s usually too easy. I would be grateful for any ideas, suggestions or actual workbooks names. What do you do with a class that exhibits poor behavior with anything other than quick paced, teacher led instruction? I want to dig into inquiry but they misbehave if I don’t catch them back quickly
