The grass isn’t always greener! Can you imagine having that long commute and still having a stressful job! Do you know anyone at the new campus that can give you some intel?
You're right all money is not good money. That commute in the winter here in Chicago can go from 45 minutes to 2 hours. Be careful. I haven't sat in traffic in years I would probably lose it.

You’ll spend more than that in gas and wear and tear on your car. That kind of increase isn’t even one you’ll notice in your check.
Going from a really short commute to much longer can be a huge shock. I guess I would consider it if you think you will like the new district better. I would gladly drive farther if it meant not having to dread going in everyday! Plus a little extra money never hurts.
Consider other benefits too like medical costs, gas, tolls, etc. $2500 taxed doesn’t go as long as it use to!
Although my campus is stressful, I have been there for 12 years bc I like the people I work with and my admin doesn’t micromanage at all. I have built a rapport with the staff and families in the community over the years! I honestly don’t think the stress will ever go away in education, so at least the familiarity reduces a lot of it for me. For me, it’s not worth starting all over and moving my classroom! That’s a lot of work!
Not for $2500 more… nope. I would not.

I had a drive like that in the past. It wasn't bad. But drive it to see what the traffic is like, look for information about the campus culture, and then make a choice. $2500, really isn't much, but if it protects your sanity, it's worth the drive.
Good luck 🍀☮️🙏😇🍀
$2500 isn’t a lot more $$ when you thing of all your deductions. You will easily eat that up in your 45 minute commute each day . Also……will you have to pay more for your healthcare insurance??
I definitely don't think that amount of a raise would be worth it. You'll likely still be very stressed but with an added amount of work time (commuting) everyday. Stay close to home, you can't understand now but having a short commute is a life saver.
I did this exact thing. 20 years experience went from $52k two years ago to $68k today. 45 minute commute each way. Much better insurance. I was six years from retirement (took time off with my kids) and needed to raise my “high five” salaries since our pension is based on this. Great decision, glad I did it, but kids were all out of the house. Not sure it would have been a good decision if I had kids at home.
CMS1, that is not comparable! 🤣 You doubled your salary, driving less, with less work! Of course that’s a best move! The OP is talking $2,500 difference!
Are there other costs to consider in the way of time? Will that longer commute cost you family time or time away from church or other hobbies you enjoy?
I wouldn’t just consider the monetary difference, $2500, but how does the one salary guide compare to the other? Is it top heavy or bottom heavy? How will this affect your pension in the long run?
Long commutes are terrible. Your time is so much more valuable than money. Stay where you are.
Driving 2 1/2 hours extra per week for $600 extra per week. All things being equal that’s a great bonus. Lots of people drive 30 or more minutes to work
The other factor
if you are making $5,000/month and receive $2,500 more that’s massive.
If you are making $10,000/month or more and receive $2,500/month extra not as massive.

They would be driving 35 minutes extra each way 5x a week. Not sure how you got 2.5 hours, but it’s just under 6 hours a week in extra travel time. That doesn’t take into account traffic, weather, etc.
This morning, I woke up to a bad dream. I was teaching in a county about 45 minutes away. My commute now is 15 minutes. It was the first day of school. I was unsure of the schedule and people. I spent almost my whole planning looking for the restroom. 😂I even asked people, but it still could not be found. I woke up thinking that all is not perfect where I am, but I do know when and what is going to happen, and the restroom is close to my classroom. I have no advice, but had to share this nightmare.
It’s an “economy of time.” It’s something you definitely need to weigh into your decision.
STRESS KILLS.
My commute to and from work is 90 minutes. (I live in a suburb outside NYC.) If you aren’t happy and stressed, you should leave.
Go where you are CELEBRATED not where you are tolerated. Follow your passion!!!
My commute isn’t quite that long (only 25 minutes each way) but I enjoy it because I can listen to books or music and it helps me decompress. It also means it’s inconvenient to go back once I’m home, so it helps enforce a work/home separation. So I actually like the longer commute.
That said, I have to be echo the warnings others have listed: Keep in mind that there are no guarantees and that this new job may be as stressful as the previous.
