It’s not like Deloitte forced them to apply to that location or at all. Your friend knew where they were applying to and that it wasn’t remote.
I retract my statement too. I should have known better than to defend this firm. 😂

Hahahaha the Deloitte kool aid is strong. Heck BCG gave me a relocation “bonus” despite staying in the same city.
My suggestion is to negotiate OP. But be ready to walk away. Again I have worked in 2 previous Fortune 150 companies, and consulting for 10 years. Its kind of crazy that they don’t. But again it is indeed Deloitte. Maybe they think since it is harder to get in than Harvard then they do not need a relocation bonus...
If you’re unable to negotiate a relocation package, but also set on joining for other reasons (higher salary, diff career opportunity, etc.), see if you can negotiate other aspects of the offer….higher signing bonus and / or salary, or longer runway before moving (eg, “I’ll move on my own dime, but I’d like to do it when my current lease ends so I can avoid an additional $xx hit”). Good luck
Yes this is normal. If your friend applied to the office and was not requested to move to another office, this seems like the likely scenario
So why does your friend want to work there? Unless the signing bonus covers the costs and inconvenience they are already showing they don’t value your friend’s time or money.

Yeah, that is crazy specially if they were not told that would be case before hand. Never had a job (well corporate jobs) that wouldn’t relocate me or at least cover the breakup lease and some moving costs.
Completely normal. It’s more ridiculous that your friend expects a firm to pay their relocation when they applied to a specific office/city
Yep- messages overlapping- take it back given this new info. They should have relocation if headhunted

I think it’s weird. Deloitte gave me a relocation bonus after grad school to return to the office which I was originally at anyway. Maybe just try to negotiate a higher signing to make up for it?
