So I have applied for a job and was told by HR in an email that I would be making $22.79 / hr . When I get a phone call to say that they want to hire me they want to pay me $20.67. According to the posting it said between $18.53 to 22.79
HR then apologized they had made a mistake. And sent me an offer of employment for 20.67 /hour
which may not sound like much but it’s a big deal when it comes to my budget. Anyone else have this experience?

That seems like a big red flag. I am so sorry that happened. I have never had anything like that happen. That is a really big mistake to make on their part.

I have seen this a lot, especially in indeed. I got a call for a substitute school nurse position from an agency I used to work for. The pay they offered was $10/hour Less than what was advertised. I called them out on it and they said “oh t a mistake“. I’ve heard from so many companies “that’s not us, but the job boards“. I just go on the “report job “ area in indeed and tell them it’s false advertisin. Take a screenshot of the job ad and if they sent you an email saying they were going to pay y the higher rate, then legally they have to. My Dad always used to tell me “get it in writing“. Because (not 100% sure) BUT it’s a legally binding document once it’s in writing. Also did you accept the original off by email?

like

My performance won't be very good until it is that's ok..

like

Did you respond to the email from last week? If you didn’t, do it right away saying that you’re excited to accept the positio but don’t mention the pay. Secondly, if they just called you and said “that was a mistake“ well there’s no written proof that you had that conversation. If they refuse to give you the higher rate, you can always tell them you’re willing to meet them in the middle because (like the rest if the world) you have a lot of expense) and “with my experience and knowledge, I was excited to be offered a great position from an organization that values thos traits“

If they put in an email the $22 hr salary then gave you an offer for $20 hr why don’t you just respond asking if salary is up for negotiation given the $22 hr email sent previously? Then reiterate your accomplishments qualifications etc. try to negotiate they obviously want you for the role so they are invested in you as a candidate. Just ask for a discussion on salary couldn’t hurt

Respond and say you are expecting the other amount and would like a revised contract. Unless work is hard to find where you are also and you really need the job. Unfortunately all employers arw lowballing these days because they can always get someone to work for less.

like

It sucks that people make mistakes sometimes

You just have to try to forget the earlier email.
Is it a good job you’d take for $20/hour or do you want to reject and keep looking?
You could also try to negotiate and say you’ll accept for $22, it’s unlikely they agree, but possible

like

I' m more then happy discuss salery at the letter time if this is a good fit for both of us.

Do you still have the announcement? You can hold them to the announcement
Or advocate that based off your skills you can not accept less than your salary you’re requesting and would like them to honor that

I can't understand full english meaning. So how can I reply.

Yeah, like right now. I am an expert industrial coatings painter, and I used to make $28.50 before I started where I am at now.

I thought I was going to get paid real close to what I made before. But, they lied and said they "Couldn't fit it in the budget" to pay me at or near what I was previously making.

Long story. . . . But yeah, I have gadgets that happen to me more than once.

Hey 👋🙂 I completely understand how frustrating that can be, discrepancies like this happen more often than you’d think, especially with HR miscommunications 💼. It’s always okay to politely clarify or negotiate, especially if it impacts your budget. Keep pushing, the right opportunity is just around the corner! 🌟

🤗

Sadly it’s common, here they say “ah sorry thats for ‘London waiting’ aka those in central London.
However, they wrote to you in an email with the offer.

Consider your options

Are you currently in work?
How much does it cost to get to work?
Is it cheaper commuting in new job?
At the end of the day it’s $1.80 minus the tax etc - do the sums.

You could try negotiating on the phone and get the conclusion in writing.

Maybe say you ‘only went for the job as it pays $ xxx more a month is there any movement to honour the advertised AND initial offered hourly rate as they have said that twice ‘

Yup, happens all the time. They know they can get away with it

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? I’ve got a toddler and my wife is an accountant (industry), and we only have a few immediate family in the country- but they have health concerns. Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

How do you get caught up (or even ahead) when you’re always behind? Assume that all things that can be offloaded have been offloaded. I cannot take one more all nighter trying to get a motion drafted two days before the deadline because I couldn’t get to it earlier.

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!
