The skills I have learned thru the years are my security. Every experience I have had is recorded in my brain and no one and no hospital can take that from me. I dont know it has worked for me. I pay no attention to anyone except my MD and especially patient.
Losing a job while in school is stressful, but as an RN, you have a highly marketable, flexible skill set that can support you through your Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program. This situation is often temporary, and many nurses have navigated this transition. Look for Per Diem (PRN) or agency nursing positions. These roles offer high flexibility, allowing you to prioritize your school schedule while still earning income. If you were fired through no fault of your own (such as restructuring), you are likely eligible for unemployment, which can provide income while you search for a new position. Contact former colleagues or nursing school peers. Many nursing jobs are found through word-of-mouth rather than online job postings. Consider non-bedside RN roles. If you were burnt out on the floor, look for roles that offer a better work-life balance while in school, such as: case manager or care coordinator which is frequently available in clinics and home health. Telephone Triage/Telehealth Nurse which are in demand, flexible, and often remote. Think about Nurse Educator or Clinical Instructor/Faculty, schools/colleges often hire RNs to teach foundational classes. School Nurse which often follows a school schedule, making it great for students. Also, DO NOT MENTION BEING in school in interviews (if necessary), if you are worried employers won't hire you because they think you will leave, you do not need to highlight that you are in FNP school during initial interviews. Good Luck!!
As someone who has gone through the same thing, I understand you feeling depressed. I lost a job a couple years ago that I LOVED. It was so devastating to me. I went through a long period of not only depression but feeling anger and betrayal. I know every situation is different, but just know that life has a way of working itself out. There is a much better position out there for you. Take what you learned from this job and keep moving forward.
