SVP level strategist with 12 yoe and a few awards from both agency and brand side work. NYC, white female. What should my rate be for a freelance project with an agency? Probably about 5-7 days of work. Also, should I do project or day rate? Haven’t done this before!

Bellwether Technologies Corporation is the worst company I have ever worked for. They fired me 3 weeks into the job after actively recruiting me and enticing me to leave my current job. Consulting is so exhausting sometimes… handling client personalities is my biggest weakness, and my social anxiety has been through the roof so I haven’t been able to make many meaningful connections at work. I’m starting to think I’m not fit for this career and that’s probably ok.

I’m an introvert in strategy consulting, working in US, born in India. I find it difficult to host client meetings - how to drive conversation, fill in the pauses, and help drive the group move towards next steps consensus. It’s not that I don’t know how, it’s that I doubt myself, and my language skills. I see some other SC/Ms just repeating what others said, and just talking too much of what’s already known - and they are appreciated. How do I reach a stage where I am able to do this better?

Looking for advice on project management software or tools for HR consulting. Our firm doesn’t have anything that is standard or used at all, and while some of us are starting to venture into using Microsoft Teams, I feel like there are so many tools out there and we could be doing things way more efficiently. We work in small client teams (1-3 team members per client usually) and it’s a mix of strategy, tactical, and outsourced HR work. Any suggestions?

Maternity leave question: at my firm, female associates returning from maternity leave have a habit of deciding which cases they want to return to work on and not coming back to the more difficult cases/partners. Recently, a senior associate who was single handedly running a massive case is refusing to come back to it, even though it’s left the rest of the team (and the client) in a rough spot because she’s the only one with institutional knowledge of the case. Is this normal?

Staffed on a project which seems to be heading for disaster. Oversold and understaffed. Is my performance going to be negatively impacted by other's failures? Such thing as guilty by association?

Looking for various POVs on short-term consulting engagements versus long-term, retainer-esque engagements. I would consider steady cash flows a benefit of the latter, but don’t long-term engagements make it harder to develop a wider variety of client relationships which could pose risks to client churn?
