Not me personally but a director I worked with is very direct with the feedback they gave. This caused a lot of the junior staff to feel a certain way because the direct feedback would sometimes be too brutal and done in front of the entire team. This has caused almost all of the junior staff she has worked with to leave (also because she hindered promotions due to her very high unworldly expectations)
Personally, If you’re going to be direct with your feedback and not sugarcoat, I would take a step back and see if it may come off as rude TO THEM or putting someone down to them especially in front of their colleagues. That type of feedback isn’t for everyone so you need to know your audience and provide feedback accordingly. Before I give feedback, I try to understand why they did things the way they did and then be direct about how it should’ve been done and is expected to be done in the future.
