It’s a hard one for sure, it can feel like speaking a different language even with other departments. I always try to think “explain it like I’m 5” and just spell stuff out in the easiest possible terms.
Totally—sometimes I have to remind myself they’re not being difficult, they just genuinely don’t know how post works. I’ve found the “explain it like I’m 5” approach super helpful too—especially when paired with visual references or analogies. Makes a huge difference in getting everyone on the same page.
A certain amount of patience and understanding goes a long way during those times. You don’t know what you don’t know and if the other person is at least attempting to understand it can be a good experience. Hopefully I have taught somebody a few things during those times too.
Absolutely — I try to remind myself that if someone’s open to learning, it’s a chance to build a better working relationship. It might slow things down in the moment, but that bit of patience often pays off later when they start to get it and everything runs smoother.
