Just put a bag on the seat next to you - and say youāre saving it. Donāt be a jerk though and save a seat in the front row or in an exit seat
Iāve done this probably 30+ times FYI no one ever bats an eye.
Sit in the middle seat. Other passengers will be less inclined to take the aisle/window when the middleās already full. Also (and this probably goes without saying), set alarms for 24 hours before departure so her boarding position will be as close as possible to yours
Usually, you can just save a seat next to you. She can't board with you unless you do family boarding. People are understanding and will take a different seat.
Middle seats are the last to fill so she will likely be able to sit next to you
