Started my new job today! I’m joining a late stage startup coming from a more mature company, and am noticing a lotttt of documentation debt. I’m coming in as Staff/Lead, and want to eventually move into management in 1-4 years. If I spend some of my first two week block updating and creating documentation for future devs, will that be seen as working hard or wasting time? It feels like a good use of my time to me….

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

Brought my gf sushi take out to her house when she got off of work. She didn't like the meal I got her and started to eat the roll i got for myself. She noticed I wasn't eating so I told her I ate before rather than tell her she was actually eating my dinner. She's now mad at me that I "lied" even though I did it so she wouldn't be embarrassed. Feel like I’ve come to a point in my consulting career where I’ve reached the end of what this job can provide me, career-wise and as an opportunity for personal/professional development. Does anyone else have issues knowing when to stop working or managing their work-life balance? I get emails and requests at all hours and I always respond but I'm wondering if it is time to set up some boundaries and start ignoring requests after a certain point at night and on the weekends?

Has anyone noticed that you’re more depressed working fully remote? Having a quiet and non collaborative team is really making me think if I would prefer a hybrid position.

What holiday party did you get?
Anyone living close to an office, got a holiday party with food and drinks, and the venue started open for them until around midnight. Our remote workers got a one hour party w a DJ and trivia that let you win gift cards. Yeah it was nice to win a gift card but I found it lame in comparison to hanging out with my team in real life.

My company is fully remote in the US and is in general supportive of me going but concerned about local and international tax liability. Remote year doesn’t share tax advice and our HR team is small.
