Have people been doing more or less work with personal projects since working from home? I feel like it’s been harder to keep motived to work on my side projects since starting a permanently remote position.

For me it depends on how you define projects. I've definitely spent more time on my main project 'ME' since transitioning to full remote. My days feel far less crammed without a commute on a subway, thats for sure!

It's been much easier for me to stay motivated on personal projects since working remotely. On my slow days, I might write a blog post or work on a personal coding project. When I was working in the office, I was usually too tired at home to really want to do anything else except just chill and zone out.

As I prepared to file my notice, the partner of the firm called me and asked me to stay. They’re willing to promote me mid year in December and increase salary next year in August. The current offer I have gives 60% pay increase and Partner still can’t match that offer after promotion. Firm leadership says here I have potential to be a partner in 8 years and talk about all the leadership support I have rn which is fair. Is this one of their tactics to make me stay or should I just leave…

I am noticing that McKinsey is increasingly recruiting at non-elite schools (very roughly speaking not top 15 schools). At my old undergrad, 5 years ago the most competitive firm to show up was EY. This year McKinsey took 4 non-internship full hires. Why is McKinsey going “down market” for recruiting? Are elite school kids losing interest in consulting so McK has to cast a wider net? Or is McK seeking a wider pool for other reasons? I advise undergrads on consulting so want to be best informed.

Hi Guys. Need help evaluating two offers: 1. McKinsey - Associate in Risk Consulting - $165K base/30K sign-on. NYC/Chicago. 2. Facebook - Program Manager in Security and Privacy - $160K base/$100K RSUs over 4 years/$20K sign-on. Bay Area I have 6 YOE at Deloitte in Cyber since graduating college. Has always been a desire to work at McK but don’t plan to stay in Consulting long term. Was all set to join McK until this offer came along. Any advice on what factors I need to consider?

Why don't more (white collar) Americans take breaks in-between jobs? Like a month or two summer break. Is this mindset that you need to work all the time a vestige from back when people would work at the same company for 40 years until they die?
