Rejections, wild variances in pay, constant stress. It's a grind, but as long as you know that going in, you'll be fine. I think coming from retail helps a lot with maintaining a positive mindset. I used to work there as well, and it makes my current work feel easier and much more rewarding by comparison.
Starting out in sales can definitely be a challenge, and when people say it gets rough, they’re usually talking about the pressure to meet targets, dealing with rejection, and the constant hustle to find new leads. It can be mentally tough, but having a positive attitude and staying resilient helps a lot. Being prepared for ups and downs is key, and it sounds like you’re already off to a great start by staying realistic.
The rough is majority of time you loose the deal unless your selling a product that sells itsef. Close rate for my current job is maybe 20 to 25% rate so for 100 deals we win around 25. You can do everything right to win the business and it can boil down to something totally out of your control like some product feature you dont have and you loose the deal.
