Starting out in law & feeling lost. I have a grad degree in international law + a T3 American undergrad, but I’m struggling to find a clear path forward. Considering a UoL LLB (more flexible since I need to work), or maybe a JD later. Anyone break into law in the us a nontraditional way? Need all the help I can get

What sort of role are you trying to get? Are you trying to become a lawyer?

To my knowledge, only a handful of states will let you sit for the bar without going to law school. But candidates that go the nontraditional route have a harder time passing the bar and getting a job.

Best path if you want to be an attorney in the US is to get a JD.

Do not become a lawyer if you are having any doubts. I’ve talked 10 people out of being a lawyer. This is a lawyers job (idc what type of law you practice) what is the worst possible thing that could happen and you have to think that for every case every day to protect yourself and your client. It’s hard for that not to carry over into your personal life. Everyone I’ve talked out of going to law school or leaving law school is much happier.

Hi Fishes,

l interviewed for Deloitte (India not USI) in January, and accepted an offer letter with DOJ of 25th April, later HR asked me to join on 11th April for which I agreed. Now I haven't received the revised offer letter or any links other than BGV and Pre-Hire form from Deloitte and now the HR is not even picking my calls or responding to emails.

Any advice on what to do?

Considering a move in-house to NBC Universal in any litigation role (though I’d really go to wherever there is a need, whether litigation or business affairs generally). Coming from 4th year law firm litigation experience in a variety of areas but mostly data breach, e-discovery, breach of K. Do I apply with an employee referral or via LinkedIn recruiter that reached out? Alternatively, if anyone has experience applying/at NBCU, I’d so appreciate general advice :) TIA.

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

I can see in biglaw not bringing up knowing damn well if you get an offer itll likely be high, but this is a midsize
