Hey everyone, I got a call from Deloitte recruiting on Wednesday of last week discussing salary requirements and location. They told me that the team really liked me and that they were going to work on an offer. I got a call on Friday saying one group has approved the offer but they are waiting on others. I haven’t heard much since then. Should I be worried? How much longer will I have to wait?

100/hr is the bare minimum. Also please stop asking/expecting people to do spec work to “test” their design skills, it’s beyond insulting.
We were looking around $150/hr - which is what we have been paying a 3rd party. Her portfolio wasn’t comprehensive and was specific to what she did at her previous position. We needed to see something outside that realm, which she didn’t have much of.
Certain styles of art don’t fit certain industries. In private equity it’s very regimented and boxed in with regulations. Much different than normal design. It’s a learned skill versus a design eye.
Agree. A portfolio is what you should be critiquing. If you want to rent to buy, then ask about freelance to perm. But don’t do design tests. It is insulting and shows you don’t know how to properly vet someone.
ACD: she was not in a position to have agency bc her potential income is on the line. The company holds the power and used it inappropriately (IMO) in this case. Doesn’t mean they did it purposefully. But it’s something that people should be mindful of.
I’m pretty vocally anti test on this app but I disagree with ECD, I think if you want a trial project then paying a freelance rate is a fair and reasonable way to do it. And $150/hr isn’t an insultingly low rate for a sr designer at all. That said, in the future, agree on the terms before the work starts, not after it’s done. It’s better for everyone that way.
Thanks for the feedback!
OP is literally asking creatives what a fair rate to pay would be and people are losing their minds.
OP, good on you for paying for her time. It's companies that expect free work that are the problem.
You should ask her for her standard hourly rate and pay her accordingly x 20 hours.
Pay her freelance rate. That is standard.
Coach
Why on earth did you have her do 23 slides for a test project
Lmfao that was a typo!! It was 12 slides haha including a cover/back cover so 10.
You pay normal rate. If you want to test.. you pay for that. There’s no reduced rate. $100/hr is bare minimum
What is a fair rate for a senior level designer, independent of test work?
What are standard hourly rates for designers?
100ish
