Have to agree. Traveled business class to Dubai & then Singapore from Chicago, and honestly it changed what I expected from a “luxury” experience. The way they treat you, the cleanliness, and the exclusivity are very different.
Services are way better abroad than in the US even with no status. My most recent trip to Vietnam - Staffs walk me to my room, make sure im happy with the room, they bring my luggage to my room, they come grab my bags and put in taxi for me as soon as I open the hotel door, they use umbrella to cover me when i wait for cab or i can wait inside the hotel and they will come find me when my cab arrives, etc. Never pay anything extra than the room itself.
Nah, i was in big city. Salary is 1.5k on average and room costs $100/night 🤷♀️
It also depends if you are white or not!

Oh?
ah ah. It depends on what you are looking for. I travel internationally too. I really don’t like all the attention, esp. in asia. I can handle my own luggage, I don’t need someone to walk to my room or check on me every hour (i find it fake). I can arrange for transportation and so on.
Luxury to me is being there when you need it, not intruding in your private space… I am much more comfortable with US approach. Maybe a culture thing…

Abroad where? US chains in western EU is pretty much the same
If you go to Asian countries , these chains are considered elite just because they are international. If you go to a low income country, they primarily cater to tourists who can afford it as oppose to the US.
Just had my first hotel stays in Europe (did airbnbs on all prior trips) and the difference is astounding. US hotels charge max for bare minimum.
