Not trying to start a gender war - How much of this discrepancy is based on factors such as mat leave? Or teaching women to be more assertive and proactive in pushing for salary increases?
In my economics class in university the professor stated the above 2 reasons were the biggest reason for the wage gap in modern society.
I think generally women are just less assertive and I can see how this would contribute to us getting paid less. Coming from a very assertive female, I have noticed within my all female department, there are things they let roll off their backs and they don’t speak up for themselves in general. I feel like women are more likely to be self critical and doubt their worth/expertise. Know your worth, own it, and be confident when negotiating. Not trying to put this back on females and blame them for the pay gaps, just an observation of probable cause and how to help tip the scales in our favor.
Honestly kinda proud of our profession for keeping the gap this small, I thought we’d actually be much worse off ngl
We have salary bands by level. That makes it idiot proof.
Those are actually really small percentages, and they don’t take into account age/experience. You can see as the positions get higher which would have higher age disparities the % goes from non existent to higher. Where I am, I rarely see many women staying past senior manager so we have a lot of older men who of course would be making more than younger senior managers
I said past senior managers, and you can see that’s where the biggest disparity is. I do have one explanation for it based on my experience that will make it near impossible for there to ever not be a gap without it being very unfair, but don’t have time right now. I’ll write about it later

We did a similar study in the Army and discovered that women made 0.0% less than their male counterparts at the same grade.
Adjusting for education, they made 0.0% less.
A similar study of WG, GS and GG positions found that women in those positions made 0.0% less than male peers in the same grade.
The largest employer in the country, Department of Defense, has absolute pay equality.
At the same rank and years of service but what if some one was not promoted. There would be a pay disparity between a 5 year E5 and 5 Year E4.
I'll be honest. I know more women who make more money than guys. Also like people said wages and work is about setting boundaries and being assertive. The work is not difficult it's the people. Food for thought.

Hope the interview went well! Very true, you’ll probably spend more time with coworkers then your own family (precovid). Those essential soft skills that are needed in the workplace and in life are just something that can’t be taught.
I guess the gender gap studies are only for BENEFITS of only one gender....
Since PwC is on the cohort model everyone within a band is paid the the same base. The only difference can be in incentive compensation.
This is more of a denial of a gender wage gap than supporting a gender wage gap imo. The stat of female 72 cents for the male dollar is often rebutted by “career choice” as the largest factor.
Whether or not the disparity between M and F candidates for hire is due to individual choice, hiring pool, or HR choice is not conveyed here.
When career choice is the same, it seems that the wage gap is almost entirely gone at the analyst level and widens as time goes on.
The analysis can’t just be male vs female but it needs to be multivariate. This really just supports “individual choice as the biggest reason for the difference” as a viable rebuttal.
Can we look at amount of applicants are male and female
This data is very occupation specific. It’s not consistent with longitudinal data that states there is no gap in pay based on gender.
