Personally I think it's a mistake to learn the tool before learning the tech stack. A designer with a basic level understanding of dev fundamentals (i.e. git, npm, differences between various js frameworks, etc) is going to be able to utilize something like Cursor so much more efficiently then someone who doesn't. I really believe if you understand these fundamentals it will matter much less which actual tool you put your time into, or rather it will become much easier to choose the right tool. In a lot of ways for designers, understanding the tech architecture will be way more helpful then understanding the individual blocks of code. That's why I'm personally emphasizing dev fundamentals alongside how to use cursor and cluade for design during the tutorials I present to my team members.
I'm sorry - are we running out of developers? I'm confused why we can't collaborate with devs, like we did before. Most designers coming from either design backgrounds, or the social sciences deserve to have that training respected. If I wanted to learn tech architecture, i would have chosen compsci. It's disturbing a head of design things that us all becoming DesignerDevs is the answer. The answer is to not burn people out.
