Random question for my HR Benefits professionals- if I need to take a leave from work for an arm surgery (torn muscle not pre existing condition) would it be better to enroll in short term disability or take another type of medical leave?
Thanks

Short term disability is the type of medical leave that you need to apply for in this situation and it is governed by the Family Medical Leave Act. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

like

I agree. This is what I would suggest as well. Sending you good thoughts and vibes.

like

Depends on your state and the length of leave. If your state has no state disability then your company STD plan would pay out after the determined waiting period. Most are 7 days. So if you plan to only be out less than a week, using Vacation/PTO would get you full pay. Just remember that most STD plans only pay you about 60% of your pay. FMLA runs concurrently with a disability leave which just proves you job protection (no pay). Hope your surgery goes well and you have a short recovery.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

I already have the SHRM-SCP. . would it be a value add to go for the SPHR as well?

Hi community, humbly seeking professional HR advice. I recently joined my company’s HR team. In an informal conversation, a senior HRBP, considered a peer, called 2 of our fellow HR colleagues “worthless.” I should have rebuked her then & there but was so caught off guard. This person is 20 years my senior. In the same conversation this person advocated for me on a separate matter & complimented my performance. I am not sure what course of action to take at this time. Distraught & unsure.

I am looking to make a career change to HR. I currently make 75K as a sales and development coach. I had a recent offer for a state government position in a talent acquisition role but I’d be taking a $25K pay cut. I am extremely over qualified for the position but it could possibly be a stepping stone and gives me the time to acquire SHRM certifications and possibly start taking classes to get my MBA. My question is those currently in an HR role, would this move make sense to you?
