Some of my favorite customers are the ones who appreciate the work that we do and don't take it for granted. Honestly, sometimes being a cashier can feel a little bit dehumanizing, like people don't really see us. But the good ones make it okay :)

Some customers really get it ,they see us, they’re kind, and it means a lot. Makes the tough days easier.
I've got a theory that you can tell a lot about someone by the way they react in a grocery store checkout line. You'll see some people who are just wired to be helpful, and then others who are the opposite. If you need to make a decision about a person, try to see how they handle the checkout line.

Trolleys are a whole personality test. Where they leave them? Total insight into their mindset.
I’m curious, since you spoke about appreciating customers helping you in bagging their own items in rush times, do you prefer that customers go to the self check out aisles, or do you think that gives management more reason to lower cashier hours when less people use the checkouts?

That’s such a thoughtful question. Self-checkouts help, but they shouldn’t mean fewer hours for staff.
Yes! Those helpful ones made the day feel a little less draining. Total lifesavers during the chaos.

So true. Just one kind customer can totally shift the vibe of a rough day.

When I worked in retail, I never minded the people who didn't help. I did mind the ones that wanted to rush you and wonder why I could not scan and bag a whole shopping cart in a minute or less. I worked during the start of a Target circle cell and it was sort of bad when that happened.
Rising Star
Exactly! It’s not about helping, it’s about not treating us like machines.
