Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

They’re literally advertising these jobs on Twitter. You just have to be a lawyer who likes Trump and DM Chad Mizelle. I am having a hard time believing that this will continue to be seen as a gold star on a resume.
I think there's a big assumption here that the market for these positions will be the same in years to come. Trying not to make this political, but given the mass exodus from and overall state of DOJ right now, it probably is a lot easier to get an AUSA position than it has been in years past (or may be under the next administration). Honestly, having started my career with a federal law enforcement agency when it was a prestigious role to hold and highly competitive, you couldn't pay me enough to do it now. But to each their own, and you need to decide whether the opportunity outweighs any downsides given your long-term goals and where you're at in life.
Good point. I’m very cognizant of the fact that this might be a rare opportunity to get in. But it’s also not the best time for me. This is just a guess, but ideally the next administration will come in and do a mass hiring to pick up the mess of this administration. While it will be more competitive, there will be a lot of openings.
Wasn’t there reporting recently that AUSA candidates were essentially being given Trump purity tests (what’s your fave exec order type stuff)? No matter your personal politics, that seems like a pretty massive red flag, and I’d wonder if being hired (at least at some offices) now might actually hurt rather than help your career in the long run.
Not quite true- I believe that is for all fed gov applicants, so not just for AUSA. (Xmas holiday EO would be my answer)
That said I agree with A2 that you should consider what cases you may be prosecuting/ defending for the current admin and whether you want your name and atty no on those filings
It’s not the gold start you think it is. Future employers will know the dates, but if you don’t mind that, go for it. Also make sure that you’re willing to commit ethical violations and be held accountable after this regime is over.
I am not sure about the criminal division but highly don’t recommend to join the civil division right now. You might be forced to file something that’s not like 100% ethical.

I think declining the offer isn’t your biggest potential risk.
I’m finding it really hard to believe you didn’t read the news at all or researched what’s going on with the DOJ and their lawyers before posting this. Maybe you should apply.
Yeah it’s not like Trump 2 has wildly escalated from Trump 1 or anything
