So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Did it the other way round. London industry isn’t great at the moment tbh. It terms of work, It’s a much smaller market so you can get more interesting work made, but like NYC it depends what agency and client. Mother, Adam&eve, uncommon still doing interesting work.
Wages are like a half of New York. But cost of living is cheaper so it’s not as drastic as it seems. I actually felt poorer when I moved to NYC on twice the salary of what I got in London.
Work life balance again depends where you are and what you’re comparing it too. I don’t think the NY grind culture exists so much in London but some agencies will be more demanding than others.
Having made the move the other way around - from London to NYC, few things i can say..
1. Less of the hustle and get things done attitude in London
2. Pay is alot less but cost of living is similar (rent is expensive) but food and eating out a bit cheaper than NYC
3. More holiday and time off (and respect for time off)
4. The work will depend on the agency and account. You get a chance to do great work in both places
What would you say the % increase was from London to NYC?
UK pays nothing and you will need 3 roommates to get by
I did this 2 years ago (NY to London) and have some things to say. I was extremely paranoid about the pay cut but in the end I have way more money in London after a $75k cut. Life is much cheaper (specifically grocery store food). Overall it’s so much more pleasant (clean, polite) than NY and the work culture is also nicer. It totally depends on the account (I work more in London but I don’t think that’s normal). The people at work are so kind in comparison because it’s less competitive. It’s just really nice tbh.
Sure, if you don’t mind getting 70k a year. Killin’ it!
