Why? Australia can have a nice lifestyle if you have millions of dollars, but the work culture here is the most challenging in the world for three reasons: (1) expensive and consultants have low pay compared to blue collar industries; (2) challenging to win work, because clients don’t see the value in paying consultants compared to UK and US.; (3) long hours and tall poppy syndrome, the work life balance is actually worse here than the uk and us, also if ur good at your job and more qualified than ur boss then the seniors will destroy you to teach you a lesson.
This is spot on and I could not agree with it more! There is this mentality that years = experience (quality vs quantity) and being ambitious is seen as a red flag. Working with Americans was great, especially some of their leaders who empowered me to push above the limitations that were set. Especially when your early to mid career it’s probably the place I would want to be personally, especially from an opportunities, learning and development and income perspective.
I was part of Strategy& overseas, I’ve taken the PwC qualifier off my resume in Australia. The tax scandal is still too fresh.
