Nope. A team saw it. Researched if it ran. Discovered it didn’t and produced it themselves.
Digitas NY saw something of mine on my site years ago that had been killed but I stupidly posted on my site w/o password protecting it.
A Digitas NY GCD’s admin called to bring me on for their client which was the competitor of the the client I worked on. The admin asked if what I did ran. The GCD yelled at the admin in the background to immediately hang up.
14 months later it won 9 Gold Lions. They gave the idea to the client who handed it to their AOR in England.
I learned my lesson about posting spec.

Whichever of these scenarios it was, it sucks to see someone make an idea you had as well. Hope the spec work got you at least a good job at the time!
1/ some creatives in France had the same idea.
2/ some creatives in France stole it directly from you (since it was public in your portfolio)
3/ Digitas stole it from you and presented it to L’Oreal. L’Oreal stole it from Digitas and gave it to McCann Paris without crediting Digitas.
4/ Digitas had an idea. They saw it already existed and got in touch with you to see if it actually ran. They presented it to the US client and they didn’t buy it. 1.5 years later an agency did it in France.

to be fair, macro photography of the product and removing the logo from the tagline is not a hugely unique idea
I don't disagree, but it was considered unique enough to win a Gold Lion, so I'd be reluctant to dismiss the comparison so readily if I was the team.
Don Draper basically had this idea. Not saying it isn’t possible there’s a connection but it doesn’t seem like that unique of an execution.
I was actually reminded of the whole Heinz plot line and when Peggy wanted to do the bean ballet using macro photography and was shot down 😂
You don’t own an idea. You can only sort of own the execution of it
If you put two lawyers in the room, there would be a disagreement.
Can someone describe what the idea is? I don’t get it.
@WK2, I’m guessing it’s one of three things:
1) They’re selling Heinz Baked Beans.
2) They’re selling Heinz ketchup to people who make baked beans from scratch.
3) They’re selling ketchup to people who add MORE ketchup to their already made baked beans. Yes, this is apparently a thing. 😂
Credit should be with Williams Murray Hamm who did this for the Hovis bread packaging in around 2007. They are the originators of the idea.
